At the interface between chemistry and biology, pharmacochemistry incorporates a wide variety of knowledges and concepts for the rational discovery of anticancer drugs.
This pre-meeting workshop, open to PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, will propose a fun, interactive and critical brainstorming to discuss what is an efficient anticancer drug and how to set up effective strategies to screen natural products for anticancer activity in regard to the diversity of natural sources, pharmacological targets, models and assays.
Using examples of FDA-approved anticancer drugs and a presentation of recent developments in cancer biology, the classical concepts of cytotoxicity, proliferation, apoptosis and chemoresistance will be critically discussed and innovative mechanisms of action, including multidrug resistance reversion, polychemotherapy with targeted drugs, stimulation of antitumor immunity and sensitization of tumor cells to chemo- and radiotherapy will be highlighted.
